In the summer of 2005, Mookie Hooper—think Diane Sawyer in a training bra—investigates a girl who went missing from Camp Cartwright, while confronting the budding anxieties of tweendom.

It’s the summer of 2007, and Mookie Hooper returns to Camp Cartwright with a huge secret: This is going to be her final summer at camp. So this has to be her best summer yet! Without anything to investigate, this is finally Mookie’s time to be a camper. She’s going to spend time with her buddy Carter Ruben-Rubens, finally make it into the inside of an inside joke with Fanny and her bunk, and possibly attempt a contact sport. The only thing that would put the summer over the top? Getting her first kiss. But that seems fairly unlikely since Squirrel Girl isn’t exactly anyone’s first crush.
