When Matt Perison first came to Gaia, everything was wrong and dangerous. He was promised redemption and repayment for dying of cancer, but that turned out to be a lie. He was promised a nice place in which to exist, but instead he got death. He was promised, in all ways, good. But what he has, in all ways, is bad. He's made the best of it though. Aided by his system guardian, Lucy, and the dungeon system itself, Barry, Matt began to build a life for himself. He's getting pretty good at surviving in a place where nothing else is alive. But surviving isn't all there is.

After a time skip to the apocalypse left Sean Lawrence scrapping with everything from superhero rabbits to giant lightning gods, he upped the ante and forced the issue himself, diving out of the frying pan and straight into the risking-everything-to-save the world fire. Now, he's racing against the young elites of the universe through killer dodgeball matches, arenas filled with armored snakes, and glitchy, system-breaking, vision quests. His answer to it all? Stab anything that gets in his way with the finest cobbled-together garbage he manages to lay his increasingly grubby hands on.

When an accident kicks Sean Lawrence forward in time, he finds himself square in the apocalyptic end-times. The world is doomed, and he only has a mysterious guidebook, a leather jacket, and a homemade knife to keep him company. He could spend his days grinding low-level mobs, gathering rat pelts, and waiting for a chance to escape. Or he could rise up, slay dragons, and fight against the odds. Faced with a choice between the dead-end life he's been living and the possibility of greatness, Sean has to decide if he's willing to risk his life and more for a chance to save Earth itself.

Matt's in the prime of his life. So when his doctor tells him he only has months to live, he figures it's just really bad luck. But it's about to get a whole lot worse. When Matt's Earthly form finally expires, a truck-avatar system gives him the opportunity to become a hero on the paradise world of Gaia, a supposedly verdant, rich land teeming with plants and potential. What he finds instead is a place completely bereft of life. A literal dead planet. Thanks a lot, truck.
