La tragedia que fue la Primera Guerra Mundial (solo superada por la hecatombes de la segunda) produjo una cantidad de obras maestras de inclinacion anti-belica, de las cuales una de las mas famosas fue Sin Novedad en el Frente la historia de las batallas a traves de los ojos prosaicos de unos soldados que luchan y matan sin saber por que lo hacen.

Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, en el hospital de la base norteamericana de una minúscula isla italiana, un piloto de bombardero llamado Yossarian finge estar loco. Quiere evitar a toda costa perder la vida en su próxima misión aérea y regresar a casa. ¿Por qué demonios intentan todos matarle desde abajo?, se pregunta cada vez que lanza una bomba. رواية تعيد بأحداثها إيقاع الحرب اللبنانية الحزين، وتعطي القارئ الفرصة لتصور المعاناة التي عاشها اللبنانيون الذين لجؤوا إلى أساليب شتى للتعايش مع واقعهم المأساوي. وبطل الرواية واحد من هؤلاء المعذبين الذين عاشوا الحرب بمراحلها وبعذاباتها، فراغ، دمار، يأس، وذلك كله لم يلغ كونه إنساناً يعيش إنسانيته بتدفق عواطفها وبمشاعرها. يتداخل الواقع في ثنايا الأحداث بالحلم والحب والحياة وأحداث ومواقف ورواية تتسرب بأسلوبها ودونما استئذان إلى المشاعر، تتعامل معها النفس، ويمضي الذهن بشغف متابعاً التفاصيل دون ملل، رواية جديرة بالاهتمام على صعيد العطاء الأدبي، فكان لها أن حازت على جائزة نجيب محفوظ.

فمن زنزانته في سجن على جبل الكرمل يعود الفلسطيني "الوحيد" إلى الوراء، حين كان طفلاً أثناء حرب حزيران 1967... يتذكر "وحيد" أن جده وأباه هاجرا قسرًا من قريتهما "عين حوض" التي حوّلها الإسرائيليون إلى قرية للفنانين، وصار اسمها "عين هود"، الجد سليمان بنى في نابلس بيتًا شبيهًا ببيته في عين حوض، وحين يموت الجد، يعود "وحيد" من الخارج حيث يدرس في الجامعة، ويذهب إلى بيت الجد السابق في القرية، ولكن الفنان المقيم في البيت يرفض السماح له بالدخول.. يجلس في مقهى، ويكتشف شاهدة منزل جدّه في المرحاض، يخلعها ويشتبك مع رجال الشرطة ويقتل أحدهم بالخطأ...

"وطأة اليقين" هي واحدة من أهم الروايات التي رصدت الأحداث الدامية في سوريا منذ عدّة سنوات من زاوية لم ترها من قبل.

مُنعت هذه الرواية في كثير من الدول كما أثارت جدلًا فور صدورها؛ فقد تطرّقت إلى نقطةٍ شائكة وحسّاسة في العالم العربي فهي تتحدّث عن أسرة يمنية فرّقت بين أفرادها الحرب الأهلية والصراع بين اليمين واليسار وبين الأصولية والتقاليد من جهة، والعلمانية أو اليسار العلماني من جهة ثانية.
