Dracula is the now-classic 1897 gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. It introduced the fearsome Count Dracula, and established many conventions of subsequent vampire fantasies. The novel tells the story of Dracula's attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse, and of the battle between Dracula and a small group of men and a woman led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing.

Bram Stoker was an Irish author, and Dracula is his most famous book. Dracula was published in 1897. It was not the first vampire novel. For example, it draws on Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu, who at one time was Stoker's employer in Dublin. But Dracula is without doubt the most famous vampire novel. Best known for his masterpiece of horror, Dracula, Bram Stoker wrote a number of other novels and many short stories, all on supernatural themes or filled with a physical terror reminiscent of Poe. "Dracula’s Guest" was originally part of the great novel, but was excised and published separately. Some of these stories, such as "The Squaw", "The Judge’s House" and "The Burial of the Rats", rank very high among classic tales of the macabre.

Bram Stoker created an incredible novel in Dracula. The success of the vampire novel unfortunately overshadowed most of his other writings. This volume contains nine of his best short stories, including the one in which the character of Dracula first appeared.

"Dracula's Guest" is actually the deleted first chapter from the original Dracula manuscript, which the publisher felt was superfluous to the novel. It was later released as a short story.

Abraham "Bram" Stoker was a Victorian Irish writer. He moved to London and became the business manager for Irving's Lyceum Theatre, a post he held for 27 years. He also wrote novels and short stories to supplement his income. Stoker is best remembered as the author of the hugely influential horror novel Dracula. However, he also penned a number of chilling horror and supernatural short stories. This tale contains elements of both and is one of his best.
