Set in the National Parks, these exciting mysteries featuring Park Ranger Anna Pigeon are anything but a walk in the park.
As a ranger for the National Park Service, Anna Pigeon gets assigned to breathtaking sites around the country, from Cumberland Island National Seashore off the coast of Georgia to New Mexico’s Carlsbad Caverns. Her work is often lonely, sometimes dangerous, and never boring. On the job, Ranger Pigeon has encountered missing and mutilated campers, a suspicious plane crash, Grizzly bears, grisly murders, and the horror of killing someone in the line of duty. In this suspense- and action-packed series, descriptions of stark beauty and a clear concern about protecting our natural resources are woven into each mystery.
Veteran narrator Barbara Rosenblat provides the perfect voice for the courageous, but very human, Ranger Pigeon and her colleagues. Using an astonishing range of emotions and vocal variations, she delivers a riveting performance. With her impeccable timing, Rosenblat holds the listener’s attention through Anna’s introspective moments and when the plot suddenly takes a wild turn.
Nevada Barr was born in Nevada to a couple of pilots and raised on a mountain airport in the Sierras. Pushed out of the nest, she fell into the theater. For 18 years, she worked on stage, in commercials and training films, and did voice-overs for radio. She also wrote and presented campfire stories, taught storytelling, and was a travel writer and restaurant critic. During this time, she became interested in the environment and began working in the National Parks during the summers. Over a summer stationed in Texas’s Guadalupe Mountains, she was inspired to marry her love of writing with her love of the wilderness, resulting in the Anna Pigeon series. The debut novel, Track of the Cat, won both the Agatha and Anthony awards for best first mystery. The second volume, A Superior Death, was loosely based on her experiences as a boat patrol ranger on Isle Royale in Michigan’s Lake Superior. Book three, Ill Wind, was set in Mesa Verde in Colorado, where she worked as a law enforcement ranger for two seasons. The rest is history.
