    Arjumand Banu Begum, popularly known as Mumtāz Mahal (April, 1593 - 17 June 1631), meaning "beloved ornament of the palace", was an Empress of India during the Mughal Dynasty. Her father was the brother of Empress Nur Jahan (who subsequently became the wife of the emperor Jahangir). Mumtaz Mahal was Shah Jahan's trusted companion, travelling with him all over the Mughal Empire. His trust in her was so great that he even gave her his imperial seal, the Muhr Uzah. Mumtaz was portrayed as the perfect wife with no aspirations to political power.

While her gender was no barrier for her, she faced the ill will of others owing to her gender. Rudrama Devi maintained the designation that was bestowed on her and ruled as a King.

After the death of Rawal Ratan Singh, Rani Padmavati was left with no choice to escape the evil intentions of Alauddin Khilji and save the esteem of Chittor but to sacrifice herself. The famous Chittor Jauhar comprised King Rawal Ratan Singh’s first wife, too, along with all the women of Chittor.

The reign of this queen of Parvagupta dynasty represents the status and power of women in Kashmir during that time. Didda Rani was a very intelligent and influential queen. Even prior to becoming regent, Didda had considerable influence in state affairs, and coins have been found which appear to show both her name and that of Ksemagupta.

She avenged her husband’s death by killing Alam Shah, Nizam Shah’s nephew. She was a master negotiator and maintained the purity of the Gond dynasty from Dost Mohammad Khan.

    Ghaseti Begum, originally named Mehar un-Nisa, was the eldest daughter of Nawab Alivardi Khan. Ghaseti was popularly known as Chhoti Begum because her husband, Nawazish Muhammad Khan, was known as Chhota Nawab. Her hunger for power resulted in a conspiracy, which led to the Battle of Plassey in 1757, one that decided the fate of Bengal in favor of the English and the rise of Mir Jafar.

    Baiza Bai was an early 19th century Maratha Queen of Gwalior. She belonged to the Scindia branch of the Maratha Empire. She was one of the few powerful Maratha regents to have retained considerable territory and formidable power in wake of the third Anglo-Maratha war, which saw secession of most of the once-sizeable Maratha territory. Baiza Bai was not only one of the few warriors who could well handle a firearm, but also a sophisticated and ruthless businesswoman.
