  • This episode features Gauri Shinde, Janhvi Kapoor and the making-of story of English Vinglish. In the year 2012, a first-time director hit all the right notes when she delivered a charming, heartfelt film about a middle-aged woman who, while visiting America for a family wedding, enrolls in English classes to earn the respect of her husband and kids. English Vinglish featured a winning performance from Sridevi, the massively adored superstar who was returning to the screen after a hiatus of 15 years. English Vinglish was the perfect marriage of material and movie star. Sridevi imbued the character of Shashi Godbole with genuine feeling. Through her sharp script, writer-director Gauri Shinde made strong observations about women and their tendency to allow others the power to make them feel inferior. The result is a feel-good film that frequently leaves you teary eyed and with a lump in your throat. It is a film so intrinsically connected to its protagonist and by virtue of that it’s leading lady, that the first thing that comes to mind when you think English Vinglish is Sridevi.
