Acerca de este título
Powerful women in Viking helmets, heroic males with incredible voices, and epic themes of life and death –this is opera!
Opera is an art form that tells a story through singing, music, dancing and acting. It began in 1597 when an Italian artist, Jacopo Peri, tried to reproduce the ancient Greek dramas. After noticing that the Greeks used music and speech together in these dramas, Peri chose to do the same but with signing. He created the first opera, called “Dafne.” Soon after Dafne’s release, opera became a popular form of entertainment across Europe.

Neophytes to opera will delight in this iMinds presentation, which gives a brief but explanatory overview of the art form. Opera began in Italy in 1597, when composer Jacopo Peri, influenced by classic Greek drama, wrote his first work, Dafne, told entirely through singing. Kevin MacDonald not only provides background on the origins of opera and its popularity as entertainment in Europe, he also explains nomenclature and etiquette that will be useful to beginners. MacDonald has a charming presence that will persuade even the most opera-phobic listener to investigate this beautiful and bombastic world.
